Homu Adventist Primary School

Homu Adventist Primary School has a rich history dating back to the 1950s, when it was established by one of the pioneer missionaries dedicated to serving the Homu community. Over the years, the school has grown significantly and is now over 70 years old. In 2026, the school will celebrate its 14th graduation of Grade 8 students, marking a milestone since the Education Division reintroduced Grades 7 and 8 into primary schools nationwide. Historically, Homu Adventist Primary School has been the sole educational institution serving the districts of Okapa, Henganofi, and Lufa in the Eastern Highlands Province. Its graduates have gone on to become many of the country's esteemed leaders, contributing holistically to the nation's development.

Throughout its history, Homu Adventist Primary School has implemented a well-rounded program that emphasizes spiritual, social, physical, and mental development. These programs include Worship and Spiritual Devotions, Sports and Social Activities, Work Education, and Academic Instruction. This balanced approach has produced generations of responsible, well-rounded citizens who exemplify the values promoted by the school.

Today, the current staff continue to build on the legacy left by the pioneers. In recent years, the school has been instrumental in establishing two new Adventist educational institutions within Henganofi District. The first is Homu Junior High School, which shares the same campus as Homu Primary, and the second is Johove Adventist Primary School, established in 2023 in the northern part of Henganofi District, several kilometers from Homu.

The combined staff of these schools totals 19 members, including the District Director, School Chaplain, and Voice of Prophecy Coordinator. Of these, 10 are female officers and 11 are male officers. All staff members are Adventists, except for one, who is a non-Adventist. Efforts are ongoing to guide him towards accepting Christ and embracing the Adventist faith.

As of 2026, the total student enrollment across both schools is 982 students. The primary school currently has 514 students 205 females, 309 males with 64 non-Adventist students and 492 Adventist students. The junior high school’s student population will be updated later.

Homu Adventist Junior High School

Homu Junior High School is a newly established Adventist institution located on the same campus as Homu Adventist Primary School in Henganofi District. It was created to expand educational opportunities for the community and continues the Adventist tradition of holistic learning. The school is supported by a combined staff of 19 members, including the District Director, School Chaplain, and Voice of Prophecy Coordinator. Of these staff members, 10 are female and 11 are male, with all being Adventists except for one, who is currently being guided toward embracing the faith.

As of 2026, the total student enrollment across Homu Adventist Primary and Homu Junior High School stands at 982 students, with the junior high school’s specific population to be updated later. Homu Junior High School emphasizes spiritual growth through worship and devotions, social development through community activities, physical education through sports and work programs, and academic excellence through structured instruction. Though still new, the school builds on the legacy of Homu Adventist Primary School, which has produced generations of leaders for Papua New Guinea. Homu Junior High School is poised to continue this tradition, preparing students for higher education and responsible citizenship while strengthening the Adventist mission in the region.
