District Director's Message

Welcome to the official website of Homu District, a vibrant Seventh Day Adventist District committed to spreading the Gospel and nurturing spiritual growth within our region.

I am Pastor Yanny Yainta, honoured to serve as the District Director of Homu District within the Eastern Highlands and Simbu Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Papua New Guinea Union Mission, South Pacific Division.

My journey began at Homu Layman School, where I graduated in 2004. After 22 years of dedicated service, further studies, and ministry in various districts, I am humbled to return to the very place where my calling was nurtured. Homu late Knopper Layman Training School played a pivotal role in shaping my faith, character, and calling, transforming me into an ordained pastor and district leader.

As I reflect on our history and the vital contributions of Homu School, I am reminded of its profound impact in producing courageous evangelists and pastors who have gone on to serve across Papua New Guinea. Our mission is to revive and restore this legacy by reopening the school that was closed nearly 22 years ago, following the passing of the late Pastor Peter Knopper. Re-establishing this training center is critical for nurturing future leaders, strengthening our churches, and expanding our outreach efforts in these crucial times.

The importance of nurturing new generations of spiritual workers cannot be overstated. The PNG for Christ program in 2024 has seen many conversions, yet the challenge remains in nurturing these new believers to maturity. Without proper discipleship and training, many are at risk of falling away, which burdens our mission and hampers our collective efforts.

My vision this year is to develop and revive the school into a beacon of hope, we will incorporate the upskills training into the Missionaries training school that every layperson that attends this new school can be trained and equipped with a skill. We develop church leaders as trainers and they can go back to their respective churches and train their church members.

I invite partners and churches who share the passion for advancing God's kingdom to join us in this mission. Together, we can build a stronger, more resilient church workforce that will bring souls to Christ and prepare His people for eternity.

Let us remember the promise in Matthew 16:27: "For the Son of Man is coming in His glory, and His angels with Him, and He will reward each according to what he has done." May our efforts be blessed as we labor faithfully for the harvest.

Thank you for visiting our website and supporting our mission.

Yours in Christ,

Blessings to all.

Pr. Yanny Yainta

I am deeply grateful for the foundational training I received, which continues to inspire my ministry today.

It is a place where dedicated individuals can be equipped, empowered, and mobilized for the great task of sharing the Gospel before Christ’s return.

Homu District is blessed to be served by a dedicated team of 17 passionate workers, including 2 ordained pastors, 4 full-time paid missionaries, and 11 committed volunteer workers. Among these workers, 15 are men and 2 are women, many of whom have dedicated between 5 to 20 years of selfless service in the vineyard of Christ.

Most of these faithful workers serve voluntarily, sacrificing their time, energy, and families to reach every corner of the district. Homu District is home to 53 churches, and the majority of our field workers serve without monetary compensation, driven solely by their love for God and compassion for souls. Despite facing numerous challenges- harsh terrains, rough roads, and risky environments, hey persevere with unwavering faith and dedication.

Many volunteers, often with children and families in tow, walk long distances, sometimes carrying infants and young children, to ensure that the Gospel reaches even the most remote and difficult areas. Their sacrifices extend beyond physical hardships; many face financial struggles, with some sponsors unable to provide consistent support for essentials like soap, food, and clothing.

Yet, these workers remain steadfast, honouring their commitments to serve God faithfully, regardless of the circumstances.

Their unwavering dedication has been instrumental in growing the current membership of the district to over 4,300 members, along with numerous other church members who continue to be inspired by their example. These faithful servants have invested years of their lives, endured hardship and risking their comfort for the salvation of souls and the advancement of God's kingdom especially playing the vital role in nurturing the current influx of new membership during the PNG for Christ program in 2024.
